Title: The Color of the Poor: Investigating the Consequences of Racialized Mental Images of Those Who are Poor

Abstract: As a result of these historical and persistent sociocultural factors, the gap in wealth between White and Black Americans is large and continues to grow. The current talk will discuss how stereotypical associations between race and social class influences people's political preferences toward policies aimed at helping the poor. These psychological associations between race and social class, however, neglect the history and compounding impact of structural inequality.
