Title:  Wading through faces & objects: Perceptual expertise & social information processing in early development

Abstract:  What type of cue is prioritized when viewing a social scene? In many cases, faces are one of the most important cues in our social world. As a result of this importance, face processing expertise can develop quickly in the first year of life. This talk will illustrate my interdisciplinary approach integrating perceptual and social perspectives to investigate the interplay of expertise and relevant experiences during early development. I will present my program of research reflective of three areas of inquiry: experiences relevant to perceptual discrimination, responding to facial cues, and bridging perceptual sensitivities to conceptual representations.
